Today we spent sometime going through our archive looking for special needs apps we have shared here in the past and ended up with the chart below. These are apps we would recommend for teachers and parents of kids with learning disabilities. We have arranged the apps into four main categories: apps for dyslexic learners, apps for autistic learners, apps for the visually impaired and apps for learners with writing difficulties.  For those of you using Android a similar list will soon be posted. Stay tuned.

One of the biggest identified barriers to the success of students with learning disabilities at the post-secondary level is inadequate or incomplete documentation of their disability (Bell, 2002; LOTF, 2002). This creates a problem as more and more students identified as having such disabilities are now enrolling in college and university. Indeed, there are presently more than 13,000 students in Ontario’s colleges and universities who have diagnosed learning disabilities (LD). These students are capable of being successful…if they have the supports and services they require to level the playing field and demonstrate what they know. In order to access these existing supports, however, they require an updated and comprehensive* Psychoeducational assessment……

Trace a page with your finger and Finger Reader will read it out loud for you. The device, currently in development by the MIT Media Lab, fits on your index finger like a ring. It can be used to assist children, the elderly, visually-impaired people, and second-language learners with reading labels, business cards, menus in a restaurant, prescriptions, or any other type of printed text….
